I would expect from a fantasy film to see fictional things that don’t really happen or exist, with fictional characters/creatures and magic.




What genre conventions does the poster incorporate?
The poster contains conventions of a fantasy film such as; magic, fictional creatures that could come alive, trees, elves, the typography matches the genre as it has markings inside the title of the film.




How might the film have a ‘pre-sold’ audience?
The film is based on a book, there is a pre-story (lord of the rings), it is a spin off, lord of the rings merchandise, figurines.

The trailer for the film, conforms to the genre, fantasy, by showing the audience everything you would expect from a fantasy film, such as mythical creatures, magic, action, battle scenes. The theme of the trailer is dark which is typical for fantasy films. Fantasy genre can cover many different topics.
